FOR SALE: 1989 Volkswagen Golf GTI TSR 2.0L
This Volkswagen Golf (Mk2) GTI 16V is a excellent example of the iconic classic hot hatch.
Performance upgrades/Modifications
During 15 years with the previous owner, it was extensively modified to a cost of over £30K
In 2004 a 2.0L 8V engine from TSR’s circuit range, called the "Brands Hatch" was fitted. This engine comprises of a big valve head, 40mm inlet 35mm exhaust. A 2.01 short motor. This was carried out by overboring the 1.81 block to 82.51 and using a 2.01 crank. A steel head gasket has been used for added strength. The internals of the block were all new and came with a 12-month warranty. The car was then “super chipped” and tuned by Clive Atthowe Tuning.
Uprated BC Racing coilover suspension fitted all round, along with a set up and corner weighting procedure
Mk4 VW Golf brakes fitted (calipers + grooved discs), with new driveshafts and seals
Short-shift gear selector
Corbeau bucket seats + frames and 4-point harnesses (never used).
Engine pre-heater so that the engine can be warmed up before start up.
Towbar fitted to enable a small trailer to be towed - but never used
Although there have been some performance upgrades, the car has never been raced, rallied or used for track days, it was built with the intention of being an enjoyable but usable road car.
The current owner still has the original interior, suspension and various other components for the car.
There is a substantial document history file with the car, including most MOT certificates back to 1992, service, upgrade, maintenance and invoice records for the work carried out over the past 18 years.
Odometer mileage shows 180K but, has only done around 30K since the TSR engine was installed.
