Overview
Renault Clio Williams Road-Legal Race Car | Car No. 89 | Harlow Motorsport Build | 2.1L Engine | SADEV Gearbox
Lowe Classics are delighted to offer this exceptional Renault Clio Williams road-legal race car, registration A11 EWP, 1994 Clio Williams car number 89.
This is far from an ordinary Clio Williams. Built by Harlow Motorsport from new, the car was delivered to them directly from the dealership with just 12 miles showing, before being transformed into the highly developed road-legal competition car it is today. Importantly, the car retains its original shell, while benefiting from an extraordinary level of engineering, development and competition-focused upgrades.
The build specification is extensive. Weight-saving and motorsport upgrades include a stripped interior, no carpets, lightweight windows, light weight bonnet, Sparco competition front seats, Nicky Grist harnesses and belts, tailored rear seats to match, OMP quick-release steering wheel, electric cut-off switch, red-top competition battery, full roll cage and much more. The original steel bonnet with scoop is also included with the car.
Mechanically, this Clio is a serious piece of machinery. It is powered by a 2.1-litre competition engine producing approximately 234 bhp and 186 lb ft of torque, mounted directly to the competition subframe to help eliminate drivetrain loss. The engine specification includes throttle bodies, a DTA Pro Series ECU and a competition rebuild in 2017, which included items such as a WOSP alternator, Megan coil packs and further supporting work.
Power is delivered through a six-speed SADEV dog gearbox with limited-slip differential and a competition paddle clutch, supported by Group A driveshafts, Vauxhall Cavalier stub axles and further competition drivetrain upgrades. This is the sort of specification rarely seen on a road-legal car and gives a real indication of the level of detail and investment that has gone into the build.
The chassis has also been developed to a high standard, with Leda shock absorbers with adjustable platforms, recently serviced, fabricated rose-jointed wishbones, competition braking equipment with HiSpec calipers and pads, anti-lift restraints on the rear beam, Team Dynamics 7-inch wheels and Maxsport tyres.
Over the years, this car has been the subject of a huge amount of development and expenditure, with approximately £100,000 spent on the build and ongoing improvement. The car has even been to Williams F1, adding further interest to what is already a remarkable piece of Renault motorsport history.
There is far more to this car than can be properly captured in a short description. It comes with a substantial history file and paperwork supporting the build, development and maintenance over the years. The level of precision, time and engineering that has gone into the car really needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.
A rare opportunity to acquire a highly developed, road-legal Renault Clio Williams competition car with exceptional provenance, serious specification and an extraordinary amount of money invested. A truly special car for the collector, enthusiast or driver looking for something genuinely different.
