DESCRIPTION
This Moto Guzzi California is an honest and entirely original example of the modern classic Italian touring bike, offered from long-term ownership.
It is powered by a 948cc air-cooled four-stroke OHV V-twin, producing around 65bhp, coupled to a five-speed transmission.
The odometer shows 18,755 miles, however this is not warranted.
Acquired by its fourth and most recent private keeper in June 1998, the bike is now offered for sale via the trade.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This California III is finished in a handsome two-tone Maroon and Cream paint scheme, with gold accents and a black vinyl-trimmed seat pad.
It rides on the optional 18-inch wire wheels, shod in Avon Super Venom AM20 tyres.
Stopping power comes courtesy of twin two-piston front Brembo callipers acting on 300mm brake discs, and a single two-piston rear calliper on a 275mm disc.
As standard, the bike features dual Koni rear five-way preload shock absorbers, twin pannier boxes, a rear rack, a full front windscreen, side steps, and a pillion seat.
CONDITION
The Maroon and Cream paintwork is described by the seller as being in fair condition given the bike’s age, with oxidation on the engine components, and visible pitting, small rust spots, minor bubbling, and imperfections around the bike, which are documented in detail in the photo gallery.
The seat pad, handlebars, instruments, and foot pegs are presented in generally good shape, though there is slight oxidation on the handlebar crown, light pitting on the handlebars, patches of flaking paint on the right-hand reservoir and both grips, and mild signs of use on the seat pads and foot pegs, but no other major wear.
The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults, and they state that there are no warning lights showing.
The bike’s last MOT test was conducted on 10 May 2022 at an indicated 18,737 miles, resulting in a first-time pass with one advisory for the front brake binding but not excessively.
SUMMARY
This Moto Guzzi California III is an honest and entirely original example of the marque’s modern classic touring motorcycle. Understood to be in fine mechanical fettle and remaining highly usable as is, it could benefit from some cosmetic maintenance to bring it back to its best. This California III would make a comfortable and capable companion for weekend rides and longer-distance touring alike, or as an ideal cosmetic restoration project for any marque enthusiast.
